Prior to working for IFII, Pete was a Fire Officer for 35 years, 32 in the West Midlands the last 18 as a full time specialist FI. He then moved to Devon & Cornwall Arson Task Force where his primary role involved principle investigator on major fires and FI support to other investigators. On numerous occasions he has been called to give expert evidence and advice on case reviews. A founder member, Pete sits on the management board of the Forum of Arson Investigators which is connected to the Association of British Insurers. He is also a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators and a Certified Fire Investigator. In 2003 he carried out a scoping study with the American ATF on fire investigation capabilities of the relevant agencies in Colombia, South America. He still has a training responsibility in FI for all new firefighters and detectives and regularly gives talks to the wider business community.

As a Specialist Fire Investigator he has carried out in excess of 1700 fire scene examinations including major commercial losses, domestic properties, motor vehicles and 145 fire death enquiries, covering accidents, murders and suicides.
